What changed

1 change to Idaho's numbers or rules

  1. Oct 24, 2026Added state with the 6% sales tax after trade-in, credit for tax paid to another state, title, registration by vehicle age, the electric vehicle fee, the EMS fee and county administration fees for all 44 counties. The age band edges are marked partly verified.

How Idaho works out this bill

Idaho charges 6% sales tax on a vehicle, with no local sales tax. Registration is paid every year and falls as the vehicle ages, and each county adds its own small administration fees.

The state rate is 6%. A trade-in lowers the price the tax is figured on.

If you correctly paid sales tax to a dealer in another state, you get a credit against the Idaho tax.

The yearly registration fee drops as the vehicle gets older, and electric vehicles pay an added yearly fee.

Each county sets its own administration fee for registration and for titles on top of the state fees.
